Prop 202 Essay

Proposition 202 illegal immigrant in Arizona

Proposition 202 is designed to stop the hiring of illegal immigrants. It targets the companies that hire illegal immigrants and also the immigrant who use stolen identities. Those companies that hire undocumented workers would lose their business licenses. It also strengthens the penalties for identity theft. I would support this proposition, and vote for hiring legal (rather than illegal) immigrants and making businesses responsible for their actions when knowingly employing illegal immigrants.
The arguments for and against this proposition are phrased in terms of the impact or influence would have on the citizens of Arizona. I will focus on two of the three main points for and against Prop 202 from below, which will be outlined to defend the “for” arguments contest the “against” arguments. Below are the three main points for and against, in which I will try to emphasize with substance on how the “for” points outweigh the “against” points in terms of the benefits and cost for all Arizonans.

Arguments For Prop 202
Arguments Against Prop 202
Fairness in compensation and compassion towards human rights will endure
Labor availability will be hurt
Protection and benefits for legal workers will strengthen
Consumer prices will increase
Quality of life (reduced crime) will improve
Tax payer funds will be wasted on a redundant law

If this proposition fails, it will negatively affect human rights, compassion, and fairness toward the many legal immigrants in this country. For the many legal the immigrants, find that the many illegal workers have suppressed minimum wage and have increased poverty. In a local article, the president of the Arizona AFL-CIO and honorary co-chair of the Arizona Minimum-Wage Coalition writes the following.

The current minimum wage is a disgrace. Congress has not increased it in 10 years, but on Nov. 7 the people of Arizona have the chance to do what Congress has not - raise the minimum wage by voting "yes" on Proposition 202.

About 145,000 workers in Arizona will directly benefit from an increase in the minimum wage to $6.75. State statistics show that nearly 75 percent of minimum-wage workers are adults, 20 and older. Some are senior citizens who must work to pay for their skyrocketing medications. More than 58 percent of minimum-wage workers in Arizona are women and more than one-third are the primary wage earners for their families, according to a recent study by the Economic Policy Institute.

Minimum-wage workers do some of the most important work in our communities, like caring for the elderly and teaching our children. At $5.15 an hour, minimum-wage workers earn less than they would on welfare. It's time to make work pay off for the people of Arizona again.

On Nov. 7, vote "yes" on Proposition 202 to raise the minimum wage.

The counter argument to compensation and fairness, coming from many businesses, is that many labor jobs (which may be held by illegal workers) will not be filled by legal immigrants based on the lack of willingness and ability among legal prospects. Businesses are implying that legal workers will not want the jobs of illegal immigrants. Generally speaking, most workers would like to seek an honest and decent job with a decent wage on which to raise a family. Opponents argue that represents too much government intervention. A local Tucson resident, writes the following in a commentary on economic prosperity forum.

Proponents don't talk much about the other provisions in the proposition, which is understandable. There's some pretty nasty stuff in the fine print. The legal minimum wage, in principle, is government interference with our individual rights to contract with each other. If I need a job and you want some work done, we should be able to voluntarily enter into an employment contract with mutually agreed upon terms.

This is America. Why should government prohibit a student willing to take a low-paying internship in order to enhance his career? Especially since volunteering, working for no pay at all, is perfectly legal.

-Thomas Patterson

This argument is somewhat flawed when you consider that illegal immigrants are not students seeking career knowledge or benefits. If fact, statistics show that only 22% of illegal immigrants graduate from high school (according to The Conservative Voice group). The trend on illegal immigrants to Arizona is one of the highest in the nation, and they are not coming here for school. A recent Tucson article writes the following.

More than half a million illegal immigrants lived in Arizona in January 2007, a recent study by the federal government estimates.

The state's illegal immigrant population reached 530,000 last year, a 62 percent increase from 330,000 in 2000, according to the report released Friday by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The quality of life, in terms of crime, will be impacted if this proposition does not pass. Again, the statistics do not. Below is a very recent article on the crime rates with illegal immigrants in Arizona.

On October 2nd, the Maricopa County, Arizona District Attorney's office released crime statistics that prove this point. Overall, while illegals represent only nine percent of the population in Maricopa County (which includes Phoenix) they are responsible for approximately 22% of the crimes committed. Here is a breakdown of statistics by crime category. Illegal aliens account for:

· 33.5% of those sentenced for manufacture, sale or transport of drugs.
· 35.8% of those sentenced for kidnapping.
· 20.3% of those sentenced for felony DUI.
· 16.5% of those sentenced for violent crimes.
· 18.5% of those sentenced for property crimes.
· 44% of those sentenced for forgery and fraud.
· 85.3% of those convicted of criminal impersonation or false ID.
· 96% of those convicted of human smuggling.
The statistics show that the illegal immigrant are cousing significant a mount of these crimes in the state. If they were not here crime would reduce drastically because that portion of the population is coming crime would not be here.
In summary, the arguments for this proposition outweigh the arguments against, and the statistics speak for themselves, in terms of the fairness and compensation levels as well as the quality of life that can exist with the passing of this proposition.

Change What we need

Election of 2008.

This year has been quite a different one from the past elections and this time there is a hope for black man to be elected as the president of the United State. If Obama becomes presiden there will be expectation of many changes in the country and around the globe. The last eight years we were in an economic distress where for the first time in thirty years s job employemnent was at the lowest. If McCain becomes President it will be no different from the past eight years and people don't want that we need change. for example, before the war in Iraq started commodity was cheap, I remember i use to spend $200 dollar in grocery and would last me for a month and now $500 is not enough for the house hold of four people.

Proposition 202

prop 202 is designed to stop the hiring of illegal immigrans.
It targets the companies that hire illegal immigrans and also the immigrant who use stolen identities. The illegal immigrant just like the fore fathers come with hope and asoiration to make their lives better. I am opposed to this proposition if it does not spell out what we can do with the lives of struggling immigrants who came here from different countries to change their lives.

Women Leadership

Its very interesting to see women getting opportunity to run for higher office in this country. The nomination of Sarah Palin as Mccain running mate is a step a head for women in this country. We are happy at how much women in this country are making progress after years of oppresion way back in ninteen century.
